"Family & Friends"

The Promise of my Mom to the Three Kings

Since 2006 my mom has been holding a promise to the Three Kings in gratitude for having survived two heart attacks and an open heart surgery. At the time that led to operating room she promised to sing to the Three Kings, nine carols(aguinaldos) and three to the Virgin Monserrate if interceded for her that everything would go well and fulfill this promise as she lived. Thank God the operation was a sucess. The promises to the saints are religious traditions and my family is very Catholic. This year the event took place on January 9 and family came from Florida and New York. A really nice surprise I got was when my aunt Santia (my father's sister) arrived, who I had not seen for twenty years. My mom had invited her without saying anything so you can imagine what was my reaction. Another emotional moment was when they sang it for the health of my cousin Judy. She was one that came from Florida; she's my age and unfortunately has cancer. We could not help mourn. I really do share some pretty good moments and it was a promise I will never forget.

  1. You're mom looks great for having suffered two heart attacks and having had open heart surgery. God bless her!

You looked like you all enjoyed yourselves a lot that day. It's wonderful when you get to get together with the family on a joyous occasion. It gets even better when you get to see family members you haven't seen in years. I hope your cousin can beat the cancer. God bless her too.

  4. Hello dear friend Jossie ... I see you have fun with your family ... The pictures are very beautiful.

How long have you been making the promise of kings at home? What kind of food is made to that promise of kings?

  5. Hi, Alex:
As you could see and read this promise to the kings is being carried out by my mom since January 2006 when she was operated on open heart. Is a very nice activity where the whole family gathers to give thanks to the kings by chants. In this promise we offer appetizers, and at the end of it we offer a soup with ham and sausages. Are prepared by me; delicious indeed so for the next you're invited.
